Less than a year after opening her first brick-and-mortar ice cream shop, Rabia Kamara put the proverbial cherry on top of her busy year by taking home the grand prize on “Ben & Jerry’s: Clash of the Cones.”

The show, which aired nationally on the Food Network, pitted the owner of Ruby Scoops Ice Cream & Sweets against five fellow ice cream connoisseurs for a month as they competed against each other in Vermont – where Ben & Jerry’s is headquartered. As the winner, Kamera won the $20,000 grand prize.

Kamara’s winning flavor, Bia’s Black Joy Sundae, combined salted malted dulce de leche ice cream with her unique Old Bay caramel swirl, dark chocolate fudge brownie chunks, and salty toffee hazelnut blondies.

A Virginia Commonwealth University alum who went on to study culinary arts at L’Academie de Cuisine, Kamara opened Ruby Scoops on Richmond’s Brookland Park Boulevard at the end of 2020 after getting her start at D.C. area farmers markets, grocery stores, and festivals.

Ruby Scoops is located at 120 W. Brookland Park Boulevard and features a rotating selection of innovative flavors including a selection of vegan sorbets.
