The Big Kitchen opened its oversized bay doors last week offering Richmonders a brand new way to “do dinner.” Big Kitchen Hospitality, the team behind the popular Tazza Restaurants, has created a prepared meals concept allowing diners to enjoy handcrafted meals in the comfort of their own homes – and without having to get out of their cars.
Located in a renovated diesel engine repair shop in Scott’s Addition, The Big Kitchen allows diners to place orders online and, upon arrival, pull through the garage bay where an attendant will deliver their prepaid meals. Taking it a step further, The Big Kitchen expects to add delivery service in mid-February.
The unique set-up also features a large glass viewing area where guests can take a peek at the behind the scenes kitchen action as meals are prepared from scratch daily, as well as a smokehouse area adjacent to the bay, and a small storefront offering a limited selection of grab and go options.
A carefully curated menu of fully prepared entrées, salads, side dishes, smokehouse items, soups, woodfired frozen pizzas, and a handful of Tazza favorites – all of which are kept refrigerated and packaged in easy-to-reheat, compostable containers, is available for order following months of recipe tasting, and development by the culinary team. Additionally, the Grab n Go Market features a selection of salads, sides, smoked meats, soups, and a few sandwiches, as well as beer and wine.
The culinary team assembled to bring the concept to life includes Danielle Goodreau, who most recently served as Executive Chef at A Sharper Palate Catering; Will Longoria, formerly chef at Rogue; and Zack Leasure, who has spent the past 10 years in some of DC’s top restaurants.
The Big Kitchen is located at 1600 Altamont Avenue and is open Monday through Saturday, 11 am-6:30 pm, and Sundays, 2:30 pm-6:30 pm.
