“Fighting hunger is a natural fit,” Kevin Murphey, a senior vice president at Publix, said during the presentation ceremony.
Publix’s charitable arm graciously announced their $50,000 donation to Richmond’s FeedMore agency to assist in the fight against childhood hunger. The money will support FeedMore’s programs, like the backpack program. This initiative sends school children home with backpacks filled with nutritious meals for the weekend. In addition to direct support of these programs, the money will allow FeedMore to continue to do more work in combating childhood food insecurity in Richmond and the surrounding areas.
Publix opened their first Richmond location in 2017 and they have dove head first into serving the community.
After the check-presentation ceremony, several Publix employees (who are no stranger’s to volunteer work), jumped in to help sort vegetables, fruits, and other perishable items that would later be distributed to those in need.
Thanks to Publix for the community support and generous donation to help cure hunger.
