TALKING POINTS & TEXT

Please SHARE this post and WRITE city council before it’s too late!

While we all can agree on the need to fund Richmond’s public schools, a higher tax on food is not the answer. We will not support this industry-specific tax increase.

WHERE’S OUR MONEY GOING? THERE IS NO PLAN.

The Mayor’s own review uncovered inefficiencies and waste across city government. How can we trust that the money from this tax increase will effectively go to schools without a plan?

IT UNFAIRLY SINGLES OUT A SPECIFIC INDUSTRY

The city should explore other options, instead of unfairly burdening the restaurant industry – its employees and its patrons. City restaurants already collect a 6% meals tax that attributed to $35.6 million dollars in revenue in 2017.

RICHMOND’S FOOD TAX IS ALREADY ONE OF THE HIGHEST

Our food tax is already higher than New York City’s! Currently, at 11.3%, this increase would move it to 12.8%.
