The Retail Advocate

You could be spending up to 30% more on packaging materials.

Working on your behalf, the Virginia Retail Federation has opposed a number of bills that would have banned the use of plastic bags.  The cost to RMA members would have meant an increase of up to 30% in packaging materials.  These bills have now failed.

Dealer Discount

The Virginia Retail Federation is continuing to work behind closed doors with the General Assembly to gain the most favorable outcome for all its members on the Dealer Discount issue.  The VRF lobby team understands how the small amounts of dollars received monthly by its members, as a fee for collecting & reporting sales tax, are more important in today’s down economy than ever before.  Most RMA members receive much less than the $800 monthly cap proposed by the House of Delegates.  The VRF will continue its efforts to reach a final proposal that will be most favorable for its members. A 2006 PricewaterhouseCoopers national survey concluded that collecting, remitting and complying with state tax codes costs a small retailer six times more than it does a large national retailer. The General Assembly is in session for another two weeks after which there may be a resolution to the issue.
