What You Don’t Know Could Hurt You!!! "Holiday Safety and Security for Your Business"

Guest speaker, Kim Vann, Crime Prevention Specialist

Safety for you, your business, your employees and your customers is always a concern, but even more so during the holiday season.  During the upcoming holiday selling season retailers may be faced with a greater than usual increase in crime due to the dramatic downturn in the economy.  Shoplifting, armed robbery, smash and grab or other crimes could place employees, customers and you in harm’s way.  The owner, manager or another responsible employee needs to know how to respond or what plans to put in place NOW to prevent and prepare for criminal acts.

This meeting will review crime prevention and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design strategies that you can apply to your business.  A tool for conducting your own security survey to your business will be reviewed and provided.  This training will give you the tools to use now in preparation for a safe and successful selling season.

Survey

Central Virginia Employment Outlook for Marketing Students with a 2-Year Degree

What types of job opportunities are available for marketing students with a 2-year degree? To find out, a local community college has joined forces with the Richmond Chapter of the American Marketing Association and Your Market Research to survey marketing professionals in and around Central Virginia. Your confidential responses to a short 8-question survey about your organization’s marketing opportunities and hiring practices and preferences will help shape the future of marketing education in Central Virginia.

If you are involved with hiring marketing positions for your organization, please follow the link to the survey. If not, please forward this link to another appropriate representative within your organization and encourage them to take the survey. This link may also be forwarded to your friends and colleagues within the marketing community—and, in fact, we ask you to please share it so we may ensure as broad a response as possible. The survey will be open through November 21, 2008.

Thank you for your interest in strengthening the value of marketing education and, ultimately, improving the Central Virginia marketing community.

Richmond Express will pickup and deliver your Central Virginia Foodbank donations for free!

Richmond Express is teaming up with companies in the Richmond area to help the Central Virginia Foodbank restock their shelves.  The need has never been greater and their warehouse supplies are much too low to help all of those in need.  They are seeking:

  • peanut butter
  • canned vegetables
  • canned fruits
  • spaghetti sauce
  • hot and cold cereals

If you are interested in helping the Central Virginia Foodbank before the Thanksgiving holiday, we can make it really simple.  Here is what you can do:

  • Pass the word around the office that you are collecting canned goods for the food bank.
  • Put out a box for people to deposit their items.
  • Contact Richmond Express and we will schedule a pickup time and deliver your donations to the food bank on your behalf.  (The food bank will send you a letter of thanks for your donations - for tax purposes.)

Richmond Express will schedule your pickups during the following times:

  • any day during the week of November 17 - 21
  • between the hours of 12:00pm - 3:00pm
  • If you require a pickup outside of this time frame, call us!  We will try to oblige!

Tip from Barnett’s Hallmark: Send An Additional Christmas Card This Year

Here is a great idea to support our wounded service men/women. When you are addressing your Holiday Cards this year, take time to address just one more card to a wounded service man or woman.  Send to:

A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington, D. C. 20307-5001

This is a great way to let our service people, who have sacrificed for us, know how much they are appreciated!

Great Opportunity for Local Retailers

Promote Your Gift Certificates!

Many thanks to Pat Patrick, who shared an interesting article: A consumer reporter is advising readers not to purchase gift cards for the holidays.  Why?  Because, he says, the store may not be in business to accept them…and he reports on a long list of national chains that are closing stores throughout the US.  True and sad as that may be, it does present an opportunity for the locally owned small and medium retailer.
