RMA provides both events and programs aimed to support our members and provide resources needed to succeed. RMA events are designed to educate, engage and/or honor members of RMA and the greater Richmond community. RMA programs are specifically tailored to help our members’ businesses thrive.
Events that Educate
It’s important to us that we keep our members informed about the state of our economy. The Economic Forecast is a spin-off of the First Friday Forum series where we invite the most trusted economic experts to speak about our shared economic futures. These specialists give insight into what retailers can expect in the coming year as well as tips for developing a strategy going forward.
First Friday Forum
This highly attended signature series is held on the first Friday of each month. Expert speakers cover timely and relevant topics. The forums offer motivating concepts and ideas for attendees to apply to their own businesses. Plus, there’s breakfast!Village Bank helps make each First Friday Forum a big success!Take it from Susan: I never miss an opportunity to attend the First Friday Forums, so I would like to take advantage of the benefits of the Priority Club membership. I always make at least one great connection at these wonderful events.
Member Power Hour
The Member Power Hour is a more informal affair held at the RMA headquarters. We encourage members to come to one of these free sessions where we dive deep into all of the first-rate benefits members can take advantage of. This event offers an engaging atmosphere where members can meet the RMA staff and make new connections with other guests. With coffee, door prizes, networking and a lively atmosphere, why wouldn’t you come?
Events that Engage
RMA holds the Connect@ happy hour series roughly five times a year. RMA members host these socials in their business locations. Connect@ is an innovative way to network with other RMA members and guests in some of the most trendy spots in the region. The hosting member gets the advantage of having members of the business community in their stores, while attendees get the advantage of meeting new contacts, catching up with old friends, and enjoying light fare and drinks.
VRF Auction and Picnic
The annual Member Picnic is a free event held on RMA’s grounds. We invite all of our members to attend this family-friendly event as a way to thank them for their membership. All-American food, beverages and live music are all provided for attendees to enjoy. In conjunction with the picnic, we host a silent auction to help benefit the VRF Political Action Committee. The VRF auction offers unique gift experience packages and discounts on member services. It’s a great way to pick up a special item while contributing to a worthy cause.
Events that Honor
Distinguished Retailer of the Year
Since 1966, the Distinguished Retailer of the Year Award has been presented annually by Retail Merchants Association. Its purpose is to honor a local retailer who is both a proven leader in their company and who actively and generously gives back to the community.
The 2014 Distinguished Retailer of the Year recipient was Barry Moore, Haley Buick GMC. RVA ShopTalk connects consumers with local retailers. It is an ongoing event series where customers can learn the latest trends and get behind-the-scenes scoop about their favorite local business owners. Plus, they have fun while shopping and supporting local businesses!
One of the biggest initiatives supporting RMA members is the Think. Shop. Buy. Local® campaign! This program is designed to raise awareness of the importance of shopping locally. It encourages consumers to think before they shop and to buy locally whenever possible.
