UPDATE: Raiders Look to Douse Fire

Richmond Raiders Head Coach James Fuller often calls his defense the fire department, relying on them to extinguish opponents’ momentum. On Sunday afternoon, they put out the Georgia

Fire, registering six sacks and three turnovers, as the Raiders turned an early deficit into a runaway win, 72-53 in Rome, Georgia.

The Richmond Raiders hit the road looking to win back to back games for the first time this season as they battle the Georgia Fire.

With the Raiders’ 55-33 win over Harrisburg last week, they pulled even with the Stampede in the loss column in the National Conference standings as they try to claw their way into playoff position.

Meanwhile, the Fire are coming off of a 39-21 loss to the Alabama Hammers which dropped them to 3-4 and into a three way tie for second place in the American Conference.

Raiders Drop Opener to Freedom

Trenton puts up 52 points against error-prone Raiders.

This opener was almost as sad as last years. In 2013, the Raiders had a 42 point loss to the eventual champion Alabama Hammers. Although they were hoping for better to start to the 2014 campaign, they received similar results as they faced Trenton Freedom (52-17).

Richmond got a spark from special teams in the fourth quarter. Kevin Allen returned a blocked extra point for two, and Gerron “Scooby” Bryant had two kickoff returns totaling 79 yards. Both returned led to Raider touchdowns, but they came too late to make a difference.

The Raiders‘ home opener will be April 12 in a Championship Game rematch against the Alabama Hammers. Single game and group event tickets are now on sale at the Raiders’ website,, and the Raiders’ hotline at 804.780.0430. Tickets start at just $7, and lower level tickets are on a Buy 2, Get 1 Free special for Opening Night.
