2013 is an exciting year for Keep Virginia Beautiful (KVB) as they are celebrating their 60th Anniversary. Since 1953, KVB has been diligently working to bring people together to make a positive and lasting impact through litter prevention, waste reduction, recycling, beautification, and education. This one-time “Celebration of Virginia” event will be held Saturday, October 5th from 7-11 p.m. at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. We are expecting a large crowd of current and past state officials, corporate leaders, and influential members from our communities. Some highlights of the year include securing the 10 living First Ladies of VA to serve on a Honorary Board for the Gala as well as a resolution from the General Assembly commending us for our 60 years of helping making a positive and lasting impact in Virginia.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch will host a job fair on Tuesday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the company’s Hanover Production Center.
The Times-Dispatch Job Fair is in partnership with Monster, the parent company of Monster.com, the premier global online employment solution for people seeking jobs and the employers who need great people.
The event will include a variety of available positions. Companies attending will include Handcraft Services, VDOT, Centura College, Bryant and Stratton, GSC Property Management and Stratford University. There is still space available for employers wishing to exhibit. Deadline to reserve a space is September 9.

The Virginia Public Safety Foundation Golf Tournament will be Saturday, September 13, 2013. The tournament will take place at the Club at Viniterra in New Kent. The event will raise money to support VPSF’s Line of Duty Death, Education Scholarship, and Line of Duty Injury Funds.

The VCU Broad Street Mile is the newest race to come to Richmond. The event combines a series of 1-mile fun runs with a community festival on the city’s major thoroughfare, Broad Street. The inaugural event will celebrate the VCU 175th Anniversary and take place on Broad Street between Belvidere Street and Hermitage Road. In addition to providing a fun, festive event, the VCU Broad Street Mile provides a turnkey fundraising opportunity for local community organizations. The races will run from 10 am to 3 pm.
Broad Street will be transformed into two areas, a mile side, and festival side. The mile side will feature fun themed mile races throughout the event, while the festival side will feature exhibits from VCU academic programs, VCU student organizations, corporate sponsors, and community organizations. The festival will also include music, art, food, and fitness demonstrations.

Capital Ale House will be hosting their 10th Annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 21, 2013. This year they will be highlighting some of Virginia’s best beers paired with German food items. The 30th Annual Watermelon Festival will be on Sunday, August 11, 2013. The Carytown Watermelon Festival presented by Martin’s has become the largest one day festival in the state of Virginia. Come out and enjoy 60 musicians, over 100 exhibitors, the Toyota Kid Zone and all of the great Carytown style! The festival will run from 10 am to 6 pm.
